If were were having coffee this week, I’d tell you that work is winding down. Although the enumerators (aka Census Takers) will still work, my team, which hosts events to ask people to do the Census will end their work on Wednesday. So I worked both Saturday and Sunday and got some very reluctant people to do their Census. I was sent to an alderman’s office during their food pantry. Many are reluctant to complete the simple survey, but we got a few. I think the most important thing we did was to let people know about another food pantry. The alderman’s main job isn’t food distribution so what they gave up, while appreciated, was a hodgepodge and not what you could use for a meal unless you were on Chopped, (e.g. a box of cereal , a jar of capers and a package of diapers). We suggested people also try Friendship Center at 2711 W. Lawrence Ave. Chicago where they give people produce, protein, milk, eggs, and packaged food. That recommendation will make a real difference to people.

I’ve gotten an estimate for the scratches on the car door. Now insurance will cover it, but I’m still shocked that it came to $4000. (I’ll get a photo up here soon.) The guy was super nice, but he proposed to fix every little dot on this 2013 car. The Kelly Blue Book value of the car is around $8300. I just want it to look okay, not brand new.

The sign with the pointed finger says that capitalism causes unemployment. The one with the fist of dollars decries the wealthy.

I was a bit surprised by the alderman’s window display and office art. It was all very left-wing. Very left wing and it made me feel unwelcome. She won by a small margin so I don’t understand why she wouldn’t have a more neutral office. I suppose the office reflects her personality, but should it? Family pictures would also personalize an office.

The weather’s changing. Today it’s chilly, gray and a little rainy. The temps are lowering. We’ll have some sunny, colorful days as we move towards November, a bleak, cold month usually.
