Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’d say that I’m working on Labor Day. I volunteered since this job may end at the end of the month. I’m not complaining, just sharing.

I loved the old movie Vivacious Lady.with Ginger Rogers and James Stewart. I’ve seen Ginger Rogers before with Fred Astaire, but she really shines here. She gives her character lots of smarts and spunk. She plays Francey who marries James Stewart’s Peter, but has to pretend they aren’t yet married due to Peter’s timidity. It’s fun light entertainment.

Saturday I got my hair done. I go to a beauty school. In this CCP Virus era that’s now strange with all the new protocols. I applaud the student who did my hair. She was skilled and cheerful. I’d definitely go back to her.

The trip was pleasant except for the parking situation. I used Spot Hero for the parking lot adjacent to the salon. I had my paper to scan but couldn’t see the light that I was supposed to scan. After a few minutes, I figured that I was supposed to scan it later so I took a ticket. This lot had no human attendants. On my way out, I saw a guard helping drivers who had some problem. The guard had the owner or manager on the phone. I told him about my problem and he put me on the phone with the manager after the driver was done. I explained my situation to the manager and he told me not to worry. I couldn’t hear much of what he told me and figured I’d call him back when I was done. Yet when I was finished at the salon, I called the posted phone and got no answer. I then called the number on my receipt and no one answered. Both times I left my number. I tried the scanner on the entry device, but it wouldn’t work. I wound up paying again figuring I can get my credit card company to help with this. No one ever called me from either number. I won’t use that lot again.

Tuesday was my mother’s birthday. One of my brothers and his family planned to go out to dinner. But it was raining and the spot we’d chosen was outside. Also, my sister-in-law doesn’t want to go into a restaurant so we went on Wednesday. My aunt and uncle also came. It was terrific to see them since I hadn’t since Christmas Eve. My aunt told us that my cousin in Las Vegas has to have heart surgery and his job is iffy after October unless they get some new business.

Kentucky Derby, 2020

Saturday my cousin and aunt (different side of the family) hosted a Zoom Kentucky Derby party. They had about 10 people and you could bet on a horse. I chose the two favorites, but neither one. Still it was fun.

  1. Is indoor dining allowed in your area? Here there hasn’t been any indoor dining for months and nobody knows when it will be allowed even in a limited capacity.
