I was at a funeral today for one of my mother’s good friends who was very giving and charitable. As part of the ceremony a priest (there were about 10 there as she was very active with many religious groups) shared two proverbs about trees:
“Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
— Greek Proverb
“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”
— African American Proberb
A good reminder to think long not just short term.
