What a great prompt this week!
I went in search of lively orchestra photos. Here’s what I found in Flickr Commons.
Murray Family Orchestra

Missouri State Archives, 1925
Pic-nic Orchestra

National Library of Medicine, 1805 – Artist James Gillray
Chanute Ladies’ Cornet Band
Russian Orchestra

National Library of Australia, 1936
I wonder whether these folks were Russians living in Australia or were visiting Australia from Russia. There wasn’t much information.
Synco Novelty Orchestra

Springfield, Ohio, 1921

Well, you certainly found some unusual orchestras! Can’t decide which one is strangest!

Love the ladies’ cornet band – not so sure about the “Lady”? in the centre. Perhaps he was the band master.

That middle person has to be a man. Not sure why he’s part of the group, but he’s surrounded by a bevy of beauties.

All really interesting images of bands from different decades. Family bands like the Murrays from Missouri fascinate me because they demonstrate how music was once a common and strong influence in a family’s cultural life.

The Pic-Nic orchestra is my hands down favorite. Those feathers are so upstanding!
