  1. The Australian portrait I find very moving – perhaps the haunted eyes. I have several children’s photographs like the Irish one – same style of dress and for the children all perched on similar chairs or benches, I suppose to create height.

  2. It’s interesting how hats can also convey nationality too. The old American veteran is wearing his Union army cap and GAR medal and ribbons. Probably taken for an “encampment’ of Grand Army of the Republic veterans.
