Sepia Saturday

2014.11W.19

I loved the boy dressed up as a cowboy having roped the man (his father? an uncle? a neighbor?). So I decided to search for children dressed up in some way and I found the photo below of a group of kids dressed up for a mock wedding. It was taken in 1924 and has been saved by Florida Memory.

They don’t look too happy, but did you spot the little face in the background peeking out from behind the pillar?

The expressions on those little faces is pricelessly hilarious! Thanks to Nell I had to go back & look at the picture again & sure enough there’s someone peeking out back there, but whether they’re another child, or an adult is hard to tell?

Yes, all the different emotions on the kids’ faces . . . priceless indeed. The groom looks happy.

They used to call these “Tom Thumb” weddings…when kids dressed up and acted out the scene. This one is great (the little girl on the left has an itchy nose or something…)

The groom looks like he could grab a cane for the next shot and break into dance.

No doubt the adults who dressed and posed the kids thought it was very amusing, even if the kids didn’t 🙂

A couple of not so happy countenances on some of the little girls, were they secretly wishing that they were the bride??

I’m surprised that they got two lads to pose in this group.

I had to go back and look for the little face, and there it was. I wonder what the thought was behind those kiddie weddings.

These children all look elegant as though they could have been in a dance recital…

Well spotted Little Nell! I think it is another child. She looks to be just about the only happy one in this photo.
