This week’s prompt inspired me to find a photo with a monkey. This photo taken at a Dutch zoo with a man teaching a monkey to smoke grabbed my attention. I wonder if anyone called the humane society. Teaching an animal to smoke certainly should be wrong.

Or maybe the monkey already smoked & was asking for a light? Still & all, someone had to teach it how to smoke before it would do so! Your point is well taken.

Agree. We humans can be an arrogant lot…

So cruel to teach the monkey to smoke, they don’t need human vices.

Unique photo; that’s certain. I agree with the other comment, objecting to having the poor animal smoke. Hopefully, it is a thing of the past and not done now.

Teaching a monkey to smoke could be considered inhumane, but I don’t see anything wrong with dressing up monkeys or teaching them tricks.

Oh dear you could just cry looking at this photo couldn’t you. The monkey looks so cold and that place looks awful – just tiles and bars. It’s like some horrible nightmare.

I just hope that everyone reads Evolution – The Monkey’s Viewpoint in this weeks post from Crazy as a Cool Fox on http://crazyasacoolfox.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/monkey-talk.html. We’ve all had a good reminder this week of how distastely we treat animals at times. As luvviealex said, that photo could make you cry.

I have to agree with Alex; there’s no redeeeming feature in that picture and it deserves to be posted to highlight the downside of being a wild creature in captivity.

I like animals but hate to see them treated this way. We never seem to learn.
