Sepia Saturday

This week watching NBC’s coverage of the Olympics and the segments on British culture. One segment showed people who still ride and even race penny farthings, the old bicycles with the big wheel in the front. Funny you never seen these featured in period dramas.

The first ones were introduced in the 1870s.

Here’s a video on how to get on a penny farthing:

Sepia Saturday

Even Sepia Saturday has caught Olympic Fever, just like me. As I ponder the prompt above, I first thought of Eric Liddell of Chariots of Fire fame. Liddell was a devout Christian and Olympic runner. The Oscar winning movie dramatizes the story of Liddell, who decided not to run in two races in the 1924 Paris Olympics because they would be held on Sunday, the Sabbath. The movie did take some liberties with the facts, which you can read about here. Still it’s a good movie well worth watching if memory serves.
